Unfortunately it seems that a lot of mods are sort of semi inactive right now, mainly because of the lack of an SDK. I bet that not much mod work will get done for a few weeks after HL2, everyone will be so busy playing it.

A lot of mods have gone dormant until the SDK is out.

I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and wait till the sdk is released. But definately a good to call them out.

really there's been some tight shit released recently from mods, the hl2 mod scene seems now to be dominated by somewhat new modswho are generating and releasing content at a record pace. the rest will prolly disappear, and resources will be freed for the foog mods. i hope anyways. it sux to see people waste their time on projects that never go anywhere, and all that work gets lost.
maybe stephen, you cna set up a databank so people can submit their work from mods that are dead in the water, so maybe someone else can use them, or add it to that to the home page on that thing where you cna show their work

this is actually quite a good idea. if you think of how many mods dont make it to a beta, there must be a shitload of models and stuff out there that NEVER get used...

yea, people like aarbo are doing it with farcry, entity expansion set, and with all the war mods, it would be a grand idea. plus alot of us want our work ingame, and don't want to wait 2 years or sign a contract that could mean it will never show up ingame, or get released if it fails.
one thing i noticed with farcry, is the early fun came from mappers, we won't see anything from mods for at least a year, but mappers can use all the stuff they can get and will be releasing works in a couple months.
remember the secret project that was being implemented? seems to be gone now, jsut redo that, with a feature for models etc

yea, thats a good point, what happens to all that stuff? they should give that away , so people can build new stories with it, and post it on a website or something

Money Mongerer's keep it locked up in a safe to eventually be burnt/stolen/lost/thrown away/lost due to change of technology (you wont find a floppy disk reader anywhere in 50 years)/etc

Unless you buy a license for it and save it yourself.

Wouldn't it be cool to start a law that states that materials used in/for production that could provide a level of knowledge/eduction must be handed out upon request after X many years.

An addition to the freedom of information that applies to businesses.
Ya, rly.
