Just use Google, look for plugins for 4 and 5, most that work in 4 work in 5.

What do you mean by "triangulator plugin"?

Oh, and just unzip them to your 3dsmax\plugins directory, same for Photoshop.

I was joking with that triangulater plugin, Just cause HL2 is all triangles, and most max models are squares and triangles.

3ds max actually stores everything in triangles, too, but groups them based on some arbitary numbering system. I haven't quite figured out the file format yet.

Any exporters would do the work for you, anyway.

Well, Hammer counts faces, which is kind of dumb, seeing as there are no actual faces.. except onthose evil clip textures..

Yes, as long as you aren't working with editable polys. Not sure about patches, NURBS, etc.

A face is the visible part of a poly. a poly technically is a closed plane of 3 or more sides. So it can be a triangle, square, ect ect. Thought i believe Max counts each single triangle as a poly. So, yeah. Thats what i gather

It all depends on what mode you're working in for each mesh. If you use Editable Mesh, it counds triangles. If you use Editably Poly (much better usually) it counts polygons.

In terms of rendering, it could be anything, triangles, quads, whatever, depends on how the engine works.
